Meanwhile, Simon prepares for the 'Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest' at the church and badly wants to be in first place. Also, Mary schemes to have the house all to herself when tricking all of her friends and family at where she is going to be. While the family prepares for the church's Annual Halloween Carnival, chaired by Annie, Eric has a bad attitude towards the whole holiday and discovers the real reason behind his hatred of Halloween when remembering a dramatic experience he had as an 11-year-old boy.
Chief O'Brien and Dr. Bashir have over watered Keiko's bonsai trees and are worried about her reaction when she returns from Bajor. Unfortunately, that will be the least of the Chief's worries when Keiko returns with an alien presence controlling her. For Keiko to survive, O'Brien must do exactly what the alien says.
Kay lays down an edict that the staff must stay in Washington, that puts a damper on Corky's trip to rendezvous with Miles in New York City. She also puts a stop to Murphy's expense account. In defiance, Murphy gets Corky on a plane to New York. Fortunately a breaking story in New York City works to Murphy's advantage. However, the next day, Corky "crumbles" under the feeling of guilt.
