Looking for inspiration, Jake Sisko walks around Deep Space Nine. Watching arriving passengers, he notices a lone woman who sets her eyes upon him. Odo receives an unexpected visit from Lwaxana Troi, who is pregnant and, because of her husband's traditions, is in fear of losing her baby boy to him.

Upon responding to an automated beacon message, the crew finds stasis pods, some of which still have living inhabitants. Several, though, have dead bodies. The cause of their deaths appears to have being scared to death.

The crew also finds that the live bodies in the stasis tubes are interacting with each other. The crew decides to uses an available tube to interact with the survivors. What they find shocks them, and puts the rescuers' lives in danger.

Mitch and Matt are saved by Hawaiian islanders. Stephanie helps an unlucky camera man find love. Logan proposes to Caroline.

A secret admirer fills Murphy's office with flowers, candy and other gifts. It's obvious who the admirer is, Andrew J. Lansing III. Andrew gets her to his place (under false pretenses), Frank rescues her; however, they discover the hideous truth.
