A Harris County Sheriff's deputy chases down a flatbed truck which is overloaded with golf carts. Then, a North Las Vegas Police officer spots a mini van driving around a parking lot with it's lights shut down. Lastly, a Rialto Police officer pulls up after seeing a collision between an SUV and a semi truck.
With Richard's help, Kahlan disguises herself as a Mord'Sith to rescue her pregnant sister Dennee - who is also a Confessor - from a D'Haran prison. When Dennee gives birth to a son, Richard is horrified to learn that it's mandated that male offspring of Confessors be put to death and resolves to save the child, putting him at odds with Kahlan.
While searching for food, Friday and Crusoe see a ship's rocket explode. They head out to see if a ship has in fact arrived, but are disappointed when they see the ship leaving the shore.
